Simple Fresh Wellness

Picture the life you’d most like to live. What does that look like? For me it’s a combination of many things. Having time to be relaxed, taking long drives through the country, stopping at road side stands, meandering through apple orchards and spending time in the sunshine with my puppy. It includes spending time with family and loved ones. Taking trips near and far. Enjoying adventures and making the most out of each day. I would wake with the sun instead of the harsh beep of an alarm clock. My days would be filled with walks, recipe creating, building my business, and the occasional cat nap 🙂 My work life would allow me to collaborate with like minded people – I would work with brands I respect and love, develop nourishing recipes and share my passion for health and wellness. I would spend my evenings with my loving family and the occasional outing. Continue reading →

Green Mylkshake

St. Patricks day is almost here and you know what that means. Everyone’s heading to the beloved golden arches restaurant to get their shamrock shake. Loaded with sugar, processed ingredients and digestion disrupting cow’s milk. I know people want to be festive and embrace the consumerism culture surrounding this day full of Irish love, but there’s no reason to suffer. You can celebrate and drink festive green shakes without sacrificing your energy and digestion. I have the perfect milk shake to celebrate St. Paddy’s day without the bloat.

Matcha is loaded with

antioxidants to help

 fight free radicals.

Instead of filling your body with processed “crap” embrace the beauty of health and enjoy this nutritious spin on the Shamrock shake. Creamy, sweet and vibrant green it has all the components that people love about its evil cousin but none of the highly processed, sugar laden and digestion disrupting ingredients. This green tea version will become your new go to, not only for one week in March but throughout the entire year. It’s a game changer! Continue reading →

Maintaining that bikini body: alkaline and detox

It seems like the hot summer weather has finally arrived. This means more people will be spending time at the cottage, on a beach or hanging out around the pool. Spending time in a bathing suit is scary for a lot of people, especially us women. This is the time we really want to feel comfortable in our body.

It’s not about being stick thin, but about being fit, healthy, and confident. We all know exercise, especially strength training is a major factor in having a toned, healthy body, but it’s not all about exercise. Nutrition also plays a huge role in body composition and health. Two areas in particular come to mind when talking about weight loss and promoting muscle building, consuming enough protein and reducing inflammation by alkalinizing your body. Today we are going to talk a little more about the second point as it aligns perfectly with detoxing, a topic many are interested in during the hot summer months.

Detox’s are a great way to reset your body and nutrition. They force us to focus on eating whole foods, removing processed junk foods, and staying hydrated. Detoxes are designed to promote the removal of stored toxins, reduce inflammation and support our detox organs/pathways. Detoxes hold many benefits and contrary to popular belief, don’t have to be scary. Check out my easy 14 day detox program for a beginner detox program, that will have you feeling more energized, lighter, less bloated, and more rested. The program guides you through the benefits of detox, how to detox, delicious detox friendly meals and detox supporting lifestyle choices. It helps you reset your health, gets you thinking about whole foods and helps alkalinize your body to reduce inflammation. Many people have had great success on the program, check out what they had to say and join their club today! Don’t waste any more time thinking about change. Start your healthy journey today!  I can’t wait for you to feel amazing!

4 tips to promote detox everyday:

Experience the benefits of these detox tips and more with the 14 day detox program. Discover the new, healthier you in just 2 weeks!

  1. Stay hydrated – hydration is key to kidney function and the removal of water soluble toxins. Drink at least 2 litres of clean beverages daily.
  2. Be a morning person – start your day at the same time and enjoy an alkalinizing glass of warm lemon water. This helps stimulate your liver, increase liver enzymes, reduce inflammation, and improve digestion. Squeeze half a lemon into 8 oz. of warm water and drink on an empty stomach.
  3. Get green – enjoy a variety of green vegetables. Loaded with fiber and detox supporting minerals, greens are essential to promoting detox.
  4. Ditch the sweets – sugar increases inflammation and promotes toxicity. Say good bye to the late night sweets and hello to better sleep, energy and health!

Detoxes don’t have to be scary and the principles can help promote everyday health and happiness. It is important to live a life celebrating whole foods, nature and balance!

Cheers to being healthy and detoxes!

Classic Ice Tea

A cold glass of ice tea on a hot summer day is my idea of perfection. The refreshing tea and slight lemony tang screams summer in a glass.

If you enjoy a large glass of ice tea but don’t want the nasty artificial or refined sugar this recipe is for you. Keep it classic with black tea or put your spin on a classic with green tea, oolong or a rooibos, the choice is yours.

6 orange peeko tea bags

9 cups filtered water

1 lemon

1/2 cup honey

  1. Boil 8 cups of water. Add boiling water to a heat safe pitcher and add tea bags and the zest of one lemon. *tip – use a vegetable peeler to zest your lemon. The large pieces make it easier to remove after steeped.
  2. Steep tea for 6-8 minutes depending on how strong you like your tea. After steeped remove tea bags and lemon zest with a slotted spoon.
  3. Let tea cool to room temperature.
  4. In the meantime make your sweetened syrup. In a heat proof measuring cup combine 1/2 cup honey with 1 cup boiling water. Stir to dissolve. Let cool.
  5. Once tea and sweetener are cooled fill a large pitcher with ice . Pour tea and sweetened syrup into the pitcher and stir with a wooden spoon.
  6. Serve with a little sliced lemon and enjoy!

Additional flavour options include green tea mint, rooibos raspberry, white tea peach, get creative! Happy sipping!
